The 169ft tall Buddha Shakyamuni sits on a vajra throne, hence it is called Buddha Dordenma. Dordenma means ‘Vajra Throne Buddha’, symbolizing indestructibility. It is located at Changri Künsel Phodrang, Thimphu, Bhutan. Sitting on a hill slope 100 metres above Wangchu river overlooking Thimphu capital city, it will radiate auspicious energy over the country and to all parts of the world, fulfilling the prophecy of bestowing blessings, universal peace and happiness to the whole world.
Upon its completion, it will be a major pilgrimage centre and a focal point for Buddhists all over the world to converge, practise, meditate and to do retreat. Thus the Buddha Dordenma Image Foundation was formed for this purpose. view our latest photo gallery here (tallest Buddha sitting) and for further information please check the foundation site here click here
