As a mark of solidarity with the people and government of Japan, Lyonchhoen Jigmi Y Thinley, cabinet ministers, senior government officials, members of parliament and representatives of the international community offered a thousand butter lamps at the Tashichhodzong, and prayed for the victims of the devastating tsunami that struck Japan, following a massive earthquake on March 11.
In a message to the prime minister of Japan, Naoto Kan, the Lyonchhoen condoled the tragic loss of lives and displacement of people caused by the natural calamities. “On behalf of the people and the government of Bhutan, and on my own behalf, I extend our deepest condolences to Your Excellency,” stated the Lyonchhoen in the message.
“Our prayers go out to the grieved families of the victims and those affected, whom we hope and pray will find the courage and endurance to bear their great personal losses.”
